Forgive me. I’m kinda new at live events on location. My recording devices all died toward the end of the event, but I was able to capture most of the Bloomington No Kings Rally on the courthouse square in Bloomington this Saturday, June 14, 2025. Lessons learned, and I’ll invest in a couple power banks for more live event capabilities. Say, a paid subscription would help with that.
If you want a recounting of the day’s events from a real journalist, this writeup from Dave Askins and the B Square Bulletin is your source. If you’ve only got so many independent media dollars to go around, spend it there first.
Now, I am not well-versed in the study of crowd size, so I am not a good source for attendance figures, but I would venture to say it was in the low thousands. Turnout was solid and generous enough to completely stuff the bed of my small pickup with non-perishable food donations for one of the local food banks. I’m just a guy with a truck - the project was organized by Indivisible of South Central Indiana, Indiana 50501, and the Monroe County Democratic Party - they deserve all the credit. The weather was stereotypically Indiana -couldn’t make up its mind. Organizers and volunteers set up in a downpour, but rally-goers were largely spared. Occasional sprinkles gave way to a hot, sunny day. I got marinated - and then cooked. There was a minor skirmish provoked by one individual, but outside that, the protest was entirely peaceful - as were demonstrations nationwide. Well done, Bloomington. And well done all day Saturday, America. We’re still kicking.
