I agree, and I remain undecided, but open minded. Birch by definitely set the bar, and Evan was good, but not great. He would be certainly a lot better than Diego Morales, though!

Separately but related, we had a canvasser show up at our door yesterday promoting George Hernando who is primarying Andre Carson this spring. He’s a political strategist and NBA player rep/agent. He worked in the Biden administration and for Pete Buttigieg, and his website talks a good line without being exceptional. I do think though that as a political strategist it seems Ass backwards for him to primary a safe seat rather than trying to win another Democratic seat and help the overall cause. …Thoughts??

I've had Hornedo on the show. He talks good game and makes a lot of good points, but by all accounts he's backed by AIPAC money and there to get rid of Carson because the incumbent is one of the few people in Congress to say, “genocide is bad, actually.”

Iʻm curious if anyone thinks Beau could actually win anything here. Can money and name recognition overcome the Trump stupidity and hatred that weʻre surrounded by?

I think the money and legacy name are actually a detriment at this point. They attract resentment from both sides of the aisle. It’s not the stupidity and hatred I’m worried about - it’s turnout from the very people Bayh seems willing to give up on by leaning into voter ID.

I guess weʻll have to wait and see. I also have a chip on my shoulder against nepo-babies, but those may be the only Dems we can realistically hope for, since they already have money and name recognition? I like his grandfather a lot- hopefully he will influence Beau. Beau could not possibly be worse than our current Sec of State at any rate, so Iʻll vote for him if heʻs our nominee. But it would be better if heʻd live in IN for a while and get to know us normal folks, work in a lower govʻt job first to learn, and then form some actual opinions and policies to run on. Itʻs disingenuous for him to run on Title IX and 21st Century Scholars (as much as I love those!). And Iʻd appreciate it if he talked to people who cannot vote due to the voter ID law, before he decides thatʻs itʻs just fine.

The Bayhs are good people and it does not hurt that there is name recognition. I would have been happier if he chose a lower level office first and spent time learning more about how the state government functions first. But good for him to jump in and try!

I don't feel like Evan Bayh is a good person. He was one of those Blue Dogs in the Senate that watered down any good progressive legislation that came through. He big-dicked Baron Hill out of a nomination he rightly earned only to lose that race. He became a corporate lobbyist, which should be disqualifying for any Democrat at this point. And then, to keep propping up Joe Hogsett with all his scandals. The whole thing feels gross and inorganic, like Beau had no choice but to keep the family grift going. If week-connected rich folks really want to help in this moment, they need to find real grassroots candidates and stay in the background. Anti-elite sentiment is through the roof and I think being a silver spoon-get nepo baby is actually a drawback at this point.

Like watching Peter Pan in the theater, you can see the strings.

I've had Blythe Potter on the show several times. She declared months ago and has been working non-stop. I think she brings the kind of raw authenticity voters are looking for.

Beau spent the first 30 years of his life, getting ready for public service. I worked for his grandfather, who was a perfect liberal, and his father, who was less so - but they all shared an honest desire to serve. Beau could go anywhere and make lotsa money - but he’s choosing to serve. Reminds me of another Hoosier we know!

I am thankful that ANYone wants to run for office. I prefer to talk to people and try to help them with their messaging rather than critiquing their lineage or judging them before they can show their stuff. Beau will be treated no differently. And yes - he has got what it takes to WIN against this corrupt administration. Count me in.

My beef isn't with Beau personally, but all of the insiders around him that have ruined the Democratic brand in this state. They have been selling Evan's same shitty Blue Dog neoliberal crap for the last 25 years. If the kid doesn't make an explicit, clean break from that kind of politics, he doesn't stand a chance. I'll vote blue no matter who, but I won't knock a door or make a phone call for someone I don't believe in.
