I’d like to extend some Hoosier hospitality to all of our new readers. In just the last week, our subscriber numbers have tripled! I have to credit the wonderful
for sending so many of you my way. Her piece on The Fundie Baby Voice last week perfectly summarized the trainwreck that was Senator Katie Britt’s response to the State of the Union address, and it rightfully went viral. So, big thanks to Jess for introducing us. Her activism in Missouri is a big reason I’ve jumped into that space here in Indiana. Now that you’re here, I’d love for you to stick around. First, if you’re a fan of hers, Jess was one of my earliest podcast guests. She was incredibly generous to give a newbie like me her time. That one was from last year, and you can listen here:
Since that time, my life has taken a turn. My beautiful 19-year old son passed away in January and the grief has shaken me to my core. I haven’t gone back to my full-time job. It doesn’t seem important anymore. I can feel my boy pushing me to lean into this project, to work to make our state a better place, one that isn’t governed by MAGA extremists who don’t care how many kids they harm on the way to power. I wrote the following piece on turning grief into action:
This is Why We Fight
I self-censored, something I never do. But grief changes you. A little over three weeks ago, my only son was taken from this earth. A little over two weeks ago, I delivered his eulogy. Near the end of my prepared remarks, I had written the following paragraph:
That’s a brief introduction. I’m trying to turn this into a full-time gig, keeping Hoosier lawmakers honest and helping elect Democrats to break up our rigged, gerrymandered Republican supermajority legislature. So, especially if you’re in Indiana, please consider becoming a paid subscriber to support this mission. I desperately need your help to continue this work. To entice you, I’m running a special for the next week. Can we call it March Madness? No, that’s taken?
Anyway, through Friday, March 22, I’m offering 30% off to new subscribers. Instead of $5 monthly/$50 yearly, you can support HoosLeft for $3.50 monthly/$35 yearly. I thank you in advance.
