New Year, New Beginnings
A major announcement... and you're the first to know.
It was a rough 2025. Hell, it’s been a rough decade. But I see something beginning to sprout under all this dirt we’ve been dealt.
When I started this project just about three years ago, I had no idea what I was doing. I still don’t, but I’m learning more and more every day. What I did know then was Indiana sorely lacked a progressive media presence.
Not just a Democratic Party mouthpiece to counter the vast right-wing hate machine, but a values-first platform that holds power to account across America’s very narrow political spectrum.
In this space, I’ve been trying to fill some of that need and your support, dear reader, has demonstrated there is a hunger for more. That’s why I want to let you know about an important evolution of HoosLeft - one that’s about building on the foundation we’ve already laid.
Or perhaps, to mix metaphors, I mean to say we’re building a tent - and to do that, you need more than one tentpole. That’s why, over the coming weeks, HoosLeft will become a flagship part of a new project.
HoosLeft isn’t going anywhere. The voice, focus, and values you signed up for stay exactly the same. What’s changing is the scope.
Introducing Progressive Indiana Network
It has been an honor and a privilege to meet and connect with like-minded Hoosiers who are doing their part to inject progressive, leftist, and social democratic values into the information space.
I thought, what could we do TOGETHER to pop Indiana’s right-wing disinformation bubble?
Stick a PIN in it!
PIN is an effort to bring together left-leaning Indiana writers, podcasters, and creators under one shared roof - not to flatten our differences, but to build something durable together in a state where progressive media is, at best, fragmented and under-resourced, but mostly non-existent.
Think of it as an institution built out of existing trust, not a brand-new thing starting from scratch.
HoosLeft will remain a flagship section within PIN, continuing to do what it already does: Indiana-focused political analysis, interviews, and commentary. There might be the occasional technical hiccup, and I apologize for any inconvenience that may cause.
What’s NOT changing
This part matters most:
HoosLeft content will continue
The editorial voice and priorities stay the same
Core political coverage will remain public and accessible
I’m still writing, hosting, and producing my own content under the HoosLeft brand
I don’t believe in locking essential political information behind a paywall in the middle of overlapping crises. That principle isn’t changing.
Why do this at all?
Because Indiana’s left doesn’t just need good individual voices - it needs infrastructure.
By growing HoosLeft into a broader network:
We give new voices a real platform instead of asking them to start from zero
We create a shared audience that strengthens everyone involved
We build something that can outlast any one show or writer
This is about moving from “solo projects that sometimes collaborate” to a shared public institution.
About support and subscriptions
If you currently support HoosLeft, that support will now help sustain a larger ecosystem of Indiana-focused progressive work - while keeping HoosLeft strong and independent within it.
Over time, PIN supporters may also get optional perks like:
Member hangouts or live discussions
Commenting privileges
Input on the topics we cover
Ability to ask questions of candidates/debate participants
Public shout-outs (with your permission, of course)
I don’t know. We’re still figuring all that out. Tell us what YOU want to see. This is definitely a case of building the plane while flying, but know this - our core information will always stay public. Support is about building capacity, not buying access.
Bottom line
If you’ve ever wished there were more strong progressive voices in Indiana media, this is an attempt to help make that real - without sacrificing access, honesty, or independence.
As always, thank you for reading, sharing, supporting, and holding me accountable. More details soon - stick a PIN in it! 📌
In solidarity,
Scott
