Hi there; I grew up in Indianapolis and had good public schools, 1960-72. Then a transformative undergrad’ experience at IU. 1972-78.
We need to rescue education in Indiana from bad governors who apparently actually think it is ok to privatize, and use taxpayer money to “turn old Pizza Huts into voucher schools” and hire evangelicals with tax dollars.
The quote in the above sentence is from Jess Piper who you may be lucky enough to have found on Substack. She is the founder of “Blue Missouri”. The quote is from her June 7th essay about education in her state which is even farther along in dismantling public schools.
I think we will need a coalition. However I have no money to even subscribe. But I like to brainstorm.
Maybe everyone does?
People like Pence are too brainwashed to see the mistake of their ways.
What about a collection of writings from readers about how public schools mattered to them; the difference a particular teacher made? Then we somehow present “winning” essays to Congress?
And a billboard or two with a great quote from Herman B Wells? Northern IN must have had some quotable educators, too.
Iʻd like to include womenʻs bodily autonomy in the non-negotiables. I liked the original NNs, but half of Hoosiers canʻt make their own health care choices, even in medical emergencies or in cases of rape/incest where their choices were already ignored.
I agree. I think Max's idea was to focus almost exclusively on popular economic stuff so we can win overwhelmingly and then elect our social agenda. Gonna work this into the Indiana 5NN somehow.
